He was Lubbock county superintendant of schools, for maybe 2 terms, probably 2 years each. He had a Lubbock Cooper school named after him. Was out in the country when named for him, and Perryton, Texas football team is playing them this year. This is all according to Clem Bozeman’s speculation.
I knew he ran for an office affiliated with the schools south of Lubbock. They evidently consolidated some of them and I also knew that the school was named for him. Aunt Margie had an interesting story or two about the election process.
Thanks to you and Clem for adding to the posting. Interesting that Perryton is playing them this year, too. Who should we cheer for?
Hi! My name is Sadie Shaw and I am the Communications Specialist at Lubbock-Cooper ISD, which as you probably know, was named for George C. Cooper. We are celebrating our 75th anniversary this year, and as a part of that, we are (re)compiling some history that has been misplaced through the years. One thing we are looking for is a photograph of Mr. Cooper. We did have one at one point, but several years and several moves later, it has come up missing! I would so appreciate your help in this matter! We are a growing school district and are no longer the Cooper Rural Schools that we began as, and we really want to use this milestone anniversary as a way to educate and remind our community how it all began! Thank you so much!
