I am stuck on John Mitchell (my 8th grandfather). All the information I have for him is that he was born abt. 1750 in Ireland, settled in Chatham NC, and fought in the Revolutionary war then moved to Marion Co, TN. The John Mitchell in your line looks very similar. Do you know if he had a son named Warren W. Mitchell b1782 in Chatham Co. NC(my direct ancestor) or Howell, John Jr, or William? It looks like Warren, Howell, and William all married a
daughter of Harbert Lewis if that helps too.

Thanks for your time and hope to find out we have the same family. Even if it's not the same John hoping you have maybe run across my John and could point me in the right direction. It would be great to know more.

I have traced my Mitchell ancestry back to John Mitchell, born 1860 in Orange Co, NC. Father, Andrew Mitchell, who came over from Ireland. His father William fought in the battle of Bayne. John had two brothers Andrew and James. All migrated after the revolutionary war to what became Maury county, TN. There all three established farms. I have visited Andrew Mitchell's original farm. We have well documented lineage up to the present time. I have a problem with an Anderson Craig Mitchell that I have never been able to find after the census of 1840 at Holly Springs, MS. I think that he might have gone to Texas since he was a cousin of the Bone family and also Sam Houston. If you have information on Mitchells in Texas whose lineage goes back to Andrew Mitchell who came over from Limerick Ireland I would like to correspond with you.

Your plight is not any different than those of us whose families say they are Irish then when you go to prove it, you keep coming up with everything but Irish. Have you looked in the http://books.google.com/books?id=VzUPAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA495&dq=chronicles+of+the+Scotch-Irish+in+America&lr=&ei=_eNIS6G7IZSQNeWN5IcO&cd=9#v=onepage&q=&f=false There are many Mitchells listed in the index.

What a great find! Hopefully further research will point you to at least a County in Ireland, if not a townland. Good luck!!

Hi Janice: I don't recognize the Meadows and Haney names, but HR Mitchell could be Hiram Reed Mitchell. I'm always glad to check out leads. :-)

In my ancestry search for the David Meadows & Mary Haney family I ran across the Ancestry of HR Mitchell on Ancestry.com. Are you related to him/her or do you know who it might be? I have some information to add.
