About this blog

I’ve been researching my family lines over 20 years. This is a place to tell some of what I’ve learned, tell some of their stories, and maybe vent when I can’t find them. I do some research for clients on occasion–I love the chase. It just seems like a good way to have a journal and discuss the work on my families. Maybe we’ll connect and maybe we’ll learn something from each other along the way.

I have to ask you to register to leave a comment due to problems with spam.  I hope it won’t deter you–you know how we bloggers love comments.  Glad you came by.

  1. Debra,
Do you have information regarding the spindle line back to John Spindle, Jr. and Sr.?
I seem to have way too much information and my choices for wife for John Jr. are too many.
any help would be appreciated. Also, you may be aware that my father, Hollis Spindle, passed away in 1998. We all got to visit with William and Grace back in Virginia also, way back in
90 or 91. I am finally trying to figure out our family history. some of the names and dates I have just don’t make sense.
    Thanks.
    Mike

  2. Hello Cousin – I just ran across your Blog – actually this is my first blogging experience.

Oddly enough I received an Email from my Nephew today about Autism which reminded me of Aunt Marge – Margaret Crabtree and I decided to do a search on her but found Uncle Lloyd in your blog.

Aunt Margaret was my Dads Aunt. My Dad is Emmett I. McPhail born in Texas. His Dad was Emmett P. McPhail born in Georgia, His Mom was Anna Cooper – I think she was also called Sally. I think Aunt Marge called my Dad Junior.

I met Aunt Marge and Uncle Lloyd when they lived in Medford Oregon. I lived not too far away from the Oregon border in a far out of the way placed called Forks of Salmon in Northern Oregon. I went to visit them once and they dropped by to see me once at the Forks. I didn’t get to know them real well but I really liked Uncle Lloyd and my Dad talked to and about him alot. I believe Uncle Lloyd donated his WW II flying boots to a museam in Klamath Falls Oregon.

I remember now my Mom (Hazel McPhail) and Dad telling me you were into Genology. Dad Passed on but Mom is still alive and still in Lompoc. I’ve touched on it from time to time and I’ve been thinking alot about looking into the McPhail side of the family. I know some about Dad’s moms side (Cooper) and Mom’s Side (Daniels) but not much about the McPhail side. I don’t remember Dad’s Mother Anna – but have a few very early memories of his Dad although I was only about 2 YOA when he passed on.

Anyway surprise surprise some more kith and kin popping out of the wood work.

Maybe we can do a little blogging or talking some where down the line.

  3. Larry:

Great to hear from you. I remember visiting your folks in Lompoc a little over 20 years ago. I’d taken my mom and dad on a trip to visit my youngest brother who was then living in Fresno. Dad wanted to stop by to visit “Junior”–which we did. You mom served us some really yummy cookies. Contact me directly and we’ll visit a little more if you’d like to.

  4. Hi,
I’m not related (that I know of), I just ran across your blog. I really enjoyed the posting you had about interviewing your aunt. There are so many of my relatives that have died that I wish I had recorded their stories. One aunt died in Jan. 2008 and when my son heard she died said “Mom, all of Aunt Betty’s stories all the things she knew that no one else knows are gone.” I told him it was important for him to help me remember her stories.
My husband told me I needed a blog for my genealogy so I started one about a month ago fpr many of the same reasons you listed. If you check it out please remember I’m just starting.

  5. Hi cousin,

I’m a Cooper descended from Merriman (one of the brothers who died in the Civil war). The family history I was told was that he and all his brothers died in the war, so if he hadn’t been married before the war there wouldn’t be any more Coopers.

Only this week thanks to ancestry.com have I found out that this wasn’t true–that John B. had a couple of kids before he went off with this brothers, only to survive the ordeal at Camp Douglas then die in a battle in Atlanta (okay, well, that’s what I’ve pieced together recently, but have no documentation of.

I have to apologize. I got so excited about finding out that we have family I never knew about that I used a couple of your pictures in our family tree. If you want me to remove these I will. I should have asked first, but got caught up in the moment, forgive me.

Our tree is called Risinger2008, my twin is the “home person” her label is CooperPatton.

I’ve been trying to learn more about Merriman Landrum (okay that’s the way I was taught it was spelled, and it looks like that on his marriage liscense) and came across your blog.

Please get in touch with us.

  6. I used a couple more pictures off your blog–tombstone shots from Rusk County, Texas. Tell me when to stop! Do you know about our family’s connection to the Donner Party?

  7. Enjoyed reading about Christopher Osborne and wife Catherine Furr. Her sister Mary is my 4th g-grandmother (married George Ury). I found an interesting file at Salt Lake involving a Noah Furr estate. Catharine Osborne and others filed suit against Winecoff’s and others resulting in payment to Catharine of about $106 – paid to her representative, as well as my 2nd g-grandmother ( as heirs-at-law),. I wasn’t able to find the original case, but the documents i do have state that this settlement was the result of a Supreme court order. It seems to involve an estate of Noah Furr.I can’t find any Noah furr’s other than one brother who died in infancy. Do you know anything about this?
I think a good reason for Catharine being disinherited is that she left the Lutheran faith.
    Take care,
Dorothy – some type of cousin.
